CANADIAN SMARTPHONE COMPANY - BLACKBERRY PUTS ITSELF UP FOR SALE

The gist in the smartphone market is that Canadian giant, BlackBerry, has formally put itself up for sale to other mobile phone companies on Monday.

This comes as a result of the dwindling sales of the BB series and the dull market performance of the smartphone maker's big comeback hope, the Z10. So says a top member of the company (close the matter) to America's Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The smartphone company is equally exploring other alternatives, including a joint venture agreement with another company, strategic partnerships or an outright sale.

WSJ reports that ever since iPhone and Android Smartphones came on board, Blackberry's wealth and market share have continued to go down.

What do you expect? How will sales not keep dropping, when most BB users admit the smartphone is severely challenged with battery problems?

2013 MOST CORRUPT COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD

More than half of the world’s population believe corruption in government is a very serious problem, and that corruption has only gotten worse in the past two years.

Anti-corruption body, Transparency International, has released its 2013 Global Corruption Measurement, which surveyed residents in 107 countries across the world. The top nine most corrupt nations of the world differ in many ways. Four are located in Africa, three in South America and two in Asia. Here is the list:
  1. LIBERIA: Although, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf fired the country’s auditor general for corruption. The vast majority of Liberians believe the country was run either largely or entirely by a few entities acting in their own self interests..
  2. MONGOLIA: Mongolia had one of the world’s fastest growing economies in 2012, but corruption has become pervasive in the country. 77% of the people consider civil servants in the country to be corrupt.
  3. VENEZUELA: In Venezuela, 79% of the population say their nation’s political officials were corrupt, and are among the highest percentages in the world.
  4. ZIMBABWE: 77% of the people claim that corruption in Zimbabwe had risen in the past two years, More than three-quarters of residents stated that the government was run largely or entirely by a few entities acting in their own selfish interests.
  5. MEXICO:  71% as the country’s citizens have become less tolerant of corruption in the last two years. whereas, 72% of the people stated that the Mexican government has been ineffective in fighting corruption,
  6. PARAGUAY: In Paraguay, As many as 88% of the country’s residents say personal contacts were important in getting things done within the public sector.
  7. RUSSIA: Like Paraguay, it is important to have personal contacts to get anything done in Russia. The hyper-wealthy individuals of Russian birth often have close political ties, which allow many of their friends and relatives to become wealthy.
  8. NIGERIA: In Nigeria, corruption had increased in the past two years. 75% of the population also believe the government was, at best, ineffective at fighting corruption. Nigeria is heavily dependent on the oil industry, yet the government refuses to act on accusations that the oil companies are not telling the truth about the value of the oil resources they extract and the tax they owe by billions of dollars. Certain transparency groups also blamed politicians for encouraging corruption.
  9. ZAMBIA: An extremely high 85% of residents claim they had been asked to pay a bribe in the past.
Nigeria, having moved from the 2nd to the 8th most corrupt nation in the world within the last 10 years, would you really agree  we are winning the war against corruption?

RIHANNA MAY BE PUNISHED FOR HER ACTIONS

Rihanna could lose MILLIONS of dollars... if her ex-accountants get their way in court.

Rihanna sued her former accountants, claiming they mismanaged her financial resources, and so, owed her millions. But Berdon LLP (the accounting firm in question) has retaliated, saying Rihanna's financial troubles were results of her own actions and they owe her nothing.

Berdon claimed they had tried to get Rihanna to sit down to make formal statements for nine months without successs. Now they've filed new legal papers in court, asking a judge to punish Riri for her actions.

Berdon pointed out Rihanna disobeyed court-order (for a statement) many times. Specifically, November last year; January 29, 2013; May 8 and May 9, 2013 (claiming she had a concert, but they knew the concert dates long before), and most recently June 19 (claiming she was sick).

As for the June 19 disobedience and disappointment,. Berdon claim they accommodated RiRi's schedule and set-up the statement  in London, costing them about $100,000 ... only for Rihanna to cancel the appointment. Despite the fact, they claim, she performed shortly before and after the 19th and was tweeting the day before ... with no signs of illness.

Berdon says it's can't take it anymore and will not excuse her behavior this time.

The accountants want a judge to dismiss RiRi's multi-million dollar suit against them outright, and then punish her with a fine of (at least) $100,000 for their wasted time and resources.

A judge has yet to rule, but let's see how the matter will further develop in the coming weeks

TONI BRAXTON IS FREE AT LAST!

The 'Unbreak My Heart' hit maker, Toni Braxton is reported to have paid off to her debtors a remaining $150,000 to settle her bankruptcy case.

According to a reliable source, Braxton bought back most of her personal belongings from some of her debtors by paying about $5,000 monthly for 15 months, and also handed over another $100,000 from the money she earned from performing overseas.

What remains is for Braxton to buy back the copyright on a collection of her songs for $20,000, when the ownership rights for the songs will go through auction sales on July 15, 2013.

Let's recall Toni Braxton filed for bankruptcy a second time in 2010 after it was alleged her debts had increased to almost $50 million.
