Andre the Giant
is a pro wrestling legend, a pop-culture icon and a true man if ever
there were one.
Yes, while you may have known him as a professional wrestler who died in 1993, below are crazy facts you may not have known about him:
1. He Was A Giant At Age 12:
Andre was a giant at an early age. At just 12 years old, he was already 6'3"
(I'm 6'2" right now, and I'm 20 something years old.)
2. He once reportedly drank 16 bottles of wine in four hours.
Although it's not documented by Guinness, Andre holds the unofficial
world record for most beers drank in a single sitting. That mind-blowing
number: 119.
3. He Always Insisted On Paying For Alcoholic Drinks at The Bar.
To say Andre treated his friends well would be an understatement,
especially when booze was involved. One time a friend of Andre's tried
to sneak off and pay the entire table's bill, but upon handing his
credit card to the waiter, the friend was lifted off the ground by Andre the Giant, carried back to
the table and deposited into his chair like a baby.
That friend was Arnold Schwarzenegger.
4. He Might've Molested Hulk Hogan:
In a 2011 interview, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan
told a story about Andre. While Andre was
covering an opponent for the pin, he'd shove his gargantuan thumb up the
other wrestler's ass.
5. He Was Too Big To Be A Soldier
Andre was once drafted to serve in the French army, but after the
physical, he was rejected. Why? Because there were no regulation shoes
or clothes that would fit him, nor a bed long enough for him to sleep
on.
6. His Fingers Were Too Big For Normal Rings
When one is inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, he receives a
one-of-a-kind ring. But in Andre's case, being that each of his fingers
was the size of a Ballpark hotdog, all of his rings had to be specially
made. In fact, the entire hand of an average-size man could fit through
one of Andre's custom-made rings.
7. "Andre The Giant" Became His Legal Name
Though his God-given name is Andre Rene Roussimoff, Andre signed all
of his personal checks as "Andre the Giant." Should that little
discrepancy have rendered all those checks as void? Perhaps. But no bank
teller ever had balls big enough to bring it up.
8. He Reportedly Used Bathtubs As Toilets
Over in Japan, Andre the Giant was a major wrestling attraction, able
to make big bucks -- $15,000 to $20,000 per match. Andre's travel conditions drove him crazy. His size was
even more of an issue in Japan, a place not always accommodating to a
man of his size. To that end, it's been said that while in Japan, Andre
would often take sh*ts in bathtubs, and that he'd wipe with curtains.
